Cherry Sangria

A delicious red wine based drink just right for long Sunday lunches!

Cherry Sangria
number of serves  base cherry mixture makes 1 litre

ingredients

425g can stoneless black cherries, drain juice and reserve
2 cinnamon sticks
½ cup brown sugar
750ml bottle red wine
2 limes cut into thin wedges
1 litre sparkling mineral water
Ice for serving

instructions

step 1

Place drained juice, cinnamon sticks and brown sugar in a saucepan and bring to the boil, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Stir in wine, cherries and lime slices. Allow to cool.

step 2

When ready to use, pour half red wine mixture into a jug. Add ice and enough sparkling mineral water to taste.

Oranges can be substituted for the limes and for a fruity lighter sangria, add 2 cups orange juice.
