Coconut milk is available in a variety of sizes in cans, cartons and in a powdered form that can be reconstituted with water. The “milk” is made from the actual coconut flesh and not as many people believe from the watery liquid in the centre of coconuts. Coconut milk is very versatile and can be used in soups, curries and Laksa. It is often used in delicious Asian style desserts and ice-creams. Light versions of coconut milk have more water added to “lighten” them.
Coconut cream contains more fat and is slightly thicker than coconut milk. It is made from the flesh of the coconut with water added just the same as coconut milk. However it is usually the part that rises to the top and is then skimmed off leaving the milky liquid behind.
